The Crossword Club concentrates solely on cryptic crosswords, and is aimed at those who are relatively new or inexperienced at solving these puzzles, and want a push start in the techniques required to tackle them. The basic requirement, however, is practice. We can tell you about the different types of clue and how to spot them, but that will only go 10% of the way to becoming an accomplished solver.
We meet 2-4pm on alternate Thursdays (usually, not always), in the Meeting Room at Arnold Library. It’s £1 each per session and we work informally in small groups where we can combine forces to tackle a particular puzzle. New members are welcome to join at any time. If you’ve not been before, ask the group leader for the date of the next meeting.
It will help if you have an interest in words and a warped mind. If you can see that a spanner, apart from being something in your tool box, might also be a bridge, you’ll have a head start.
